WHO WE ARE

We are an office of 150 professionals mandated by the Auditor General Act to examine and report publicly on the Government of Alberta’s management of the public resources. WHAT WE DO

We are the auditors of the province’s consolidated financial statements, and most provincial agencies, boards, commissions, and regulated funds. We audit so that we can report on how well the government is managing its responsibilities and the province’s resources. We provide independent assurance to Albertans that public money is properly accounted for and provides value.

ROLE

Reporting to a Human Resources Manager and having a “dotted line” report to the Payroll Services Lead, the Payroll Services Specialist supports pay and benefits services for approximately 150 opted out and excluded salary, wage, contract, bargaining unit-excluded, and management employees.

Using the SAP-based 1GX HCM payroll and reporting systems as well as Tenrox time administration and related systems and software, you’ll process end-to-end payroll transactions including maintaining accurate employee records, handling employee inquiries, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and Government of Alberta directives, regulations, and Acts. This role supports Human Resources processes related to commencements, promotions, transfers, classification changes, leaves of absence, and terminations. At the OAG, you’ll have the opportunity to experience all aspects of pay and benefits and time and leaves, from onboarding to termination.

As the ideal candidate, you exercise professionalism, confidentiality, and strong attention to detail while working in a collaborative team environment. Problem solving, time management, and your demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships will allow you to effectively perform the duties of this role.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • 1-year related certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years progressive Government of Alberta pay and benefits experience.
  • Knowledge of HCM 1GX and related software payroll systems.
  • Full working knowledge of payroll and benefits regulations and related legislation including Public Service Act and Regulations, Public Service Commission Directives, Payroll and Pension policy.
  • Strong understanding of Human Resources processes and terminology, payroll and benefits processes and procedures, including eligibility and enrollment rules.

Assets:

  • Public Service Pension and Management Service Pension Plans experience
  • Long Term Disability Income experience
  • Payroll Compliance Professional designation from the National Payroll Institute
  • Tenrox time entry software experience
  • Microsoft SharePoint and 365 applications experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Related government experience

COMPENSATION

  • $2,316.22 - $3,015.06 bi-weekly ($60,453 - $78,693 annually)
  • Compensated overtime, and acting pay for Payroll Services Lead cover-off as required
  • All benefits, leaves, and service will transfer from Government of Alberta for existing employees
