Job Description

The Payroll Process Specialist is responsible for designing end-to-end HR processes and contributing to business decisions for the implementation of a new payroll system. This role involves mapping out existing payroll processes, participating in design sessions and system test activities, and identifying any implementation roadblocks to coordinate with leadership for mitigation. Additionally, the Payroll Process Specialist is accountable for identifying and defining business process changes, reviewing, controlling, and requesting changes, as well as analyzing their impacts.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do

  • Process payroll and all payroll-related tasks including timecards, adjustments, ROEs, benefits and remittances.
  • Support reconciliations by reviewing payroll balances and GL accounts, investigating discrepancies, and assisting with accurate and timely tax remittances.
  • Supports business process decisions for the payroll project, including both business process design and technology design considerations which impact process.
  • Contributes to decisions associated with process, workflow approvals, and dependencies associated with other functions.
  • Responsible for designing an end-to-end HR process, taking into account relevant Seaspan system and policy requirements and limitations and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Works closely with their system integrator counterpart on the design, development, and implementation of the solution and key deliverables.
  • Verifies that the proposed design satisfies business requirements.
  • Assists in the finalization of test scenarios and testing itself.
  • Reviews data from E1 to HCM, and oversees updates made to content.
  • Coordinates and integrates institutional knowledge, provides input to the system integrator team regarding technical architecture, configuration, RICF objects, security, system administration features, peripheral systems.
  • Builds effective working relationships with internal and external clients, delivering high-quality professional advice with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Supports training efforts on business process and solution design to new stakeholders

What you'll bring

  • College diploma in accounting or human resources related program.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is an asset.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of progressive payroll experience.
  • 0-2 years experience in payroll system implementation
  • Strong understanding of accounting procedures, payroll concepts, practices and methods. In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws and compliance requirements
  • Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively in a business environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of business processes.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and payroll concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand large and complex account reconciliations.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and contribute ideas to improving departmental operations and service to employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain sustained attention to detail with high level of accuracy.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Maintains the highest degree of confidentiality in all matters.
  • Experience with JD Edwards Enterprise One or proven computer aptitude with major ERP system.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team with good interpersonal skills.
  • Advance user knowledge of Microsoft Office.

The estimated salary for this position is $81,000 - $99,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
