What You’ll Do

We have a full-time permanent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our People & Culture team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing efficient and effective payroll services to staff and supported employees including the calculation of accurate wages and salaries by creating and maintaining personnel and payroll records, in accordance with the relevant Awards, Agreements and legislative requirements. You will also provide advice on conditions of employment and payroll issues, ensuring all staff and supported employees are paid correctly and on time.

This role is a hybrid work opportunity where you will be required to work across our Sydney CBD and Sydney Olympic Park offices as well as some work from home.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure all payroll data, including employee movements, cost centre allocations, salaries, employee deductions, leave entitlements, etc are valid and correctly recorded into the Payroll system
  • Process all payroll data for new hires, terminations and employee changes including updating organisational and reporting line details
  • Prepare and check payrolls including termination calculations prepared by other Payroll Officers
  • Ensure timely responses are provided to enquiries and requests for information from employees, managers and external parties regarding payroll queries
  • Process General Ledger interface and perform all required reconciliation of payroll data in line with published month-end timetables including conducting regular review of general ledger accounts to ensure full reconciliation of relevant clearing accounts; bank accounts (payments in respect of employee remuneration, employee deductions, payroll tax, workers compensation, PAYG), and expense and provision accounts eg leave and incentive payments
  • Complete annual returns for payroll tax, workers compensation and PAYG
  • Assist with payroll end of month, end of year and annual remuneration reviews
  • Prepare EBA increases for relevant EBA as required
  • Process employee superannuation payments
  • Work with PayGlobal and Dayforce on EA changes- including matrix interpretation and EA implementation and testing
  • Ensure payroll processes are appropriately documented ensuring accuracy, compliance and interpretation with awards, legislation, policies and organisational requirements
  • Manage recommendations on enhancements to work processes in order to ensure optimal system functionality increasing accuracy and efficiencies
  • Maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships and drive continuous improvement in payroll processes and systems.

What You'll Bring

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting/Finance (desirable not essential)
  • Experience working with payroll systems (Dayforce, Payglobal, ADP, ERP, Deputy, Riteq, Kronos etc)
  • Demonstrated experience in a payroll officer position with demonstrated experience with interpreting and applying industrial instruments/Awards
  • Problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work through issues with some complexity
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide effective presentation and explanation of payroll matters across all levels of the organization
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high attention to detail & level of accuracy
  • Flexibility in managing changing priorities, deadlines and opportunities
  • Effective negotiation and influencing style
  • Ability to identify risk and resolve problems
  • High levels of resilience and the ability to work in high pressured situations
  • Track record of delivering ongoing continuous improvements
