Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations across a national workforce while supporting and developing a small payroll team.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance, driving process improvements, and providing exceptional support to employees and stakeholders across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for a national workforce.
  • Process terminations, adjustments, redundancy payments, and other manual payroll transactions.
  • Prepare month-end payroll activities, including superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax, and reporting.
  • Maintain payroll systems, employee records, and data integrity.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support to Payroll Officers.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, performance reviews, and team development.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, awards, and company policies.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and operational leaders on payroll-related matters.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and best-practice procedures.
  • Support payroll system implementations and business integration projects.

About You

  • 5+ years' payroll experience, including hands-on end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Previous experience in a senior payroll, team lead, supervisor, or similar role.
  • Experience managing payroll for a large, multi-site workforce (500+ employees preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, NES, and employment conditions.
  • Experience with payroll systems (Employment Hero essential).
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Building or construction industry experience is desirable.
