About the role

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Payroll Manager to lead and strengthen our Payroll Outsourcing Services team in Athens. This is a unique opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys both operational execution and people leadership — someone who can roll up their sleeves, support the day-to-day payroll function, mentor team members, and help shape a modern, efficient, and respected payroll operation. As Payroll Manager, you will combine operational payroll expertise with team leadership responsibilities. You will actively participate in payroll execution while ensuring the team delivers exceptional service standards, regulatory compliance, and an outstanding client experience.

Key duties & Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and support the Payroll Team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Support team members in managing complex payroll cases and statutory deadlines.
  • Contribute to building a strong, reliable, and high-performing payroll environment focused on service excellence.

End-to-End Payroll Execution

  • Actively participate in the end-to-end payroll processing for a diverse portfolio of clients.
  • Ensure full compliance with Greek labor law, social security regulations, and internal payroll controls.
  • Review payroll calculations and validate payroll outputs with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

ERGANI & Labor Law Compliance

  • Oversee all ERGANI II submissions, including hires, terminations, employment amendments, schedules, and declarations.
  • Ensure accurate management of digital working time organization and compliance with labor legislation and client operational requirements.
  • Stay continuously updated on changes in labor law, e-EFKA regulations, tax legislation, and employment compliance obligations.

Client Relationship Management

  • Act as a trusted advisor and key point of contact for payroll-related client inquiries.
  • Provide clear and professional guidance regarding payroll calculations, insurance contributions, taxation, labor law, and compensation matters.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsiveness, reliability, and professionalism.

Financial & Reporting Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and validate payroll-related accounting entries and ensure proper integration with accounting records and general ledgers.
  • Prepare payroll reports, customized summaries, and payroll deliverables for clients and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all payroll deliverables are completed accurately and within agreed timelines.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Identify inefficiencies, risks, and operational bottlenecks within payroll workflows.
  • Implement best-practice procedures, controls, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality.
  • Support the continued development and growth of Payroll Outsourcing Services within the firm.

Data Confidentiality & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and GDPR compliance when handling sensitive employee information.
  • Ensure all payroll activities meet internal quality standards and statutory deadlines consistently.

Requirements

What you bring

We are looking for a professional who aligns with our values and has the following qualifications and skills:

Qualifications

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 10 years of payroll experience, including team leadership or supervisory responsibility, ideally within a high-volume accounting firm or payroll outsourcing environment.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related Business field.
  • Required: Class B Accountant License (Άδεια Λογιστή Β’ Τάξης).
  • Regulatory Expertise: Strong working knowledge in Greek Labor Law, ERGANI systems, e EFKA regulations, and payroll compliance requirements.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in MS Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, formulas). Prior experience with industry-standard payroll software (specifically Epsilon Net Pylon/Extra or similar) is highly regarded.
  • Linguistic Skills: Native or near-native fluency in Greek and professional-level proficiency in English (written and verbal) for client communications.
