Job Description

At The Great Aussie Bush Camp (GABC), we create safe, inclusive and life‑changing experiences for children and young people. Behind the scenes, our People & Culture team plays a vital role in ensuring our people are supported, paid accurately, and cared for — and we’re now looking
for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead this critical function.

Location: This role can be based in Kyneton (VIC), Tea Gardens (NSW), or Redland Bay (QLD). You’ll need to be in the office at least two days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely on other days.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of People & Culture, you will:

  • Manage end‑to‑end payroll operations and pay runs
  • Act as system owner and SME for Employment Hero
  • Apply and interpret Modern Awards, penalties and entitlements
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Work, NES, Superannuation, PAYG and payroll tax
  • Lead audits, STP and EOFY processes
  • Oversee payroll controls, reporting and reconciliations
  • Partner with P&C and Finance to drive improvements and insights
  • Lead and mentor payroll team members (where applicable)

About you

You are a calm, detail‑driven payroll professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys partnering with stakeholders to deliver quality outcomes.

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience in a senior payroll or payroll management role within Australia
  • Advanced knowledge of Modern Awards and award interpretation
  • Strong, hands‑on experience with Employment Hero (or similar enterprise payroll systems)
  • Excellent understanding of Australian payroll legislation and compliance
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity
  • Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset and a high standard of professional ethics

Qualifications & requirements

  • Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or valid Australian work visa
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Working With Children Checks (VIC/NSW) or Blue Card (QLD)
  • Comfortable with variable working hours during payroll, month‑end and EOFY periods
