This is technical and clerical non-supervisory work in auditing payroll matters for the purpose of processing payroll. The work involves examining and processing personal documents and making appropriate changes to records.
A person in this position maintains payroll-related accounts and is responsible for payroll reconciliation processes. Researches and advises on complex matters. May perform periodic internal audits and prepares materials for internal/external auditors.
The employee reports to an individual with oversight responsibility or higher officer, in planning, coordinating and directing activities of the unit. Work is performed under the direction of a higher level officer and is reviewed for accuracy and adequacy of the work.
An AA degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting or related field and three (3) years clerical experience dealing with figures or payroll activity.
High School Diploma or its equivalent, and five (5) years clerical experience, preferably dealing with figures or payroll activity.
FACTOR 1 - KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
FACTOR 2 - SUPERVISORY CONTROL:
The employee receives instructions from higher level officer. Work is reviewed upon completion for accuracy and completeness.
FACTOR 3 - GUIDELINES:
Guidelines consist of the VI Code, policies and procedures and standards of operations. The employee follows directives from higher level officer and uses skills and abilities.
FACTOR 4 - COMPLEXITY:
Most duties are recurring and time consuming. Employee must be able to handle moderate complex situations. If a complex situation arises, the work is referred to a higher level supervisor for appropriate action.
FACTOR 5 - SCOPE AND EFFECT:
To support and maintain the entire payroll processing functions and any related duties, critical to meeting the mandates and applicable laws for operations of payroll processing and related matters.
FACTOR 6 - PERSONAL CONTACTS:
Contacts are made with employees within own agency as well as outside agencies and individuals to complete assignments and obtain additional information/reporting.
FACTOR 7 - PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
The purpose of the contacts is to obtain and/or exchange information relative to the task (s) at hand.
FACTOR 8 - PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work involves some lifting, pulling and pushing of boxes, stooping, standing and walking.
FACTOR 9 - WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in an air conditioned office setting with adequate lighting.
