POSITION SPECIFICS

Title: Payroll and HRIS Analyst

FTE: Full time, 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)

Location: Business Services Center, Sauk City, WI (onsite)

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Holiday Rotation: None

Weekend Rotation: None

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Payroll & HRIS Analyst is responsible for the accurate, timely, and compliant administration of payroll while serving as the functional expert for HR information systems. This role manages end-to-end payroll operations, including payroll processing, audits, employee data validation, tax compliance, reconciliations, issue resolution, and payroll-related accounting support, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on schedule while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

In addition, the Payroll & HRIS Analyst serves as the primary functional lead for Workday HRIS administration and optimization. Responsibilities include system configuration, business process management, integrations, reporting and analytics, testing, troubleshooting, data governance, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role partners closely with internal teams and external vendors to enhance system functionality, improve operational efficiency, support data-driven decision-making, and ensure the integrity and effectiveness of HR technology solutions.

POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Payroll Administration

  • Process accurate and timely payrolls, including biweekly, off-cycle, bonus, adjustment, retroactive, termination, and supplemental payments.
  • Review payroll reports, exception reports, audit reports, and control totals to ensure payroll accuracy prior to finalization.
  • Audit employees’ pay records, earnings, deductions, taxes, accrual balances, and benefit deductions.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and payroll system issues.
  • Support year-end payroll processing activities.
  • Develop and maintain payroll process documentation, procedures, internal controls, and audit records.
  • Participate in payroll policy development and process improvement initiatives.

Workday HRIS Administration, Configuration, and Reporting

  • Oversee daily support and administration of the Workday platform, ensuring consistent system performance and timely issue resolution.
  • Configure and refine Workday functionality across core HR and related areas such as time tracking, absence, and payroll, based on business needs.
  • Gather operational requirements from stakeholders and convert them into effective system updates, enhancements, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate testing activities for Workday releases and newly introduced features to confirm functionality and minimize disruption.
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, scorecards, and calculated fields to support decision-making and workforce visibility.
  • Investigate system problems, perform root-cause analysis, and collaborate with HR, Payroll, and IT partners on escalated matters.
  • Conduct audits and validation activities to protect data accuracy, support compliance, and maintain overall system integrity.
  • Contribute to integration support, user training, and special projects related to upgrades, optimization efforts, and operational improvements.
  • Create and maintain system documentation and configuration records, and governance procedures.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business Administration.

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum 3-5 years’ technical experience with various HR processes and disciplines (Specifically in the area of Payroll); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
