The Payroll Analyst is responsible for the set-up, research and resolution of employee employment taxes. The Payroll Analyst will be responsible for communication and customer service for tax issues and will act as a subject matter expert for these taxes.


You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Researching and resolving complex payroll tax issues, including equity and executive compensation
  • Act as an SME for payroll tax questions and issues, troubleshoot when needed
  • Tax related analysis and processing of any acquisition or divestiture activity, including partnering with vendors to insure proper state and federal reporting
  • Partner with HR Operations to manage Tier 2 cases related to payroll taxes, including communication directly to employees based on their individual situation, as well as outside tax vendors/organizations
  • Executive level compensation analysis and reporting for senior level management and Compensation Department
  • Maintain accurate tax records within payroll system, assist in testing payroll system tax updates before moving to production
  • Assist with year-end review and processing of W2's and W2c's
  • Research errors, determine root cause and make recommendations for on-going process improvements
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees
  • Collaborate with HRIS, Payroll Operation, Total Rewards and HR communities in the support of payroll operations and payroll tax changes
  • Maintain effective relationships with key internal and external customers and vendors
  • Mentor and train Payroll Tax Specialists
  • Other projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED
  • 3+ years payroll tax experience performing all functions of payroll and tax
  • Knowledge of internal systematic controls related to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Knowledge of Gross to Net Payroll and General Accounting Principles
  • Solid understanding of how to build efficient operational processes
  • Advanced Excel Skills (use spreadsheets efficiently, and perform calculations and automation to process large volumes of data, Pivot tables, VLookups)
  • Proven ability to work accurately under deadline pressure
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks with hard deadlines simultaneously
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven project documentation discipline
  • Demonstrated solid analytical, problem-solving skills, including query skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Multi-state tax experience
  • Healthcare experience


Work Requirements: Various hours as needed to support payroll tax processing with increased need at quarter ends and year-end

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $60,200 - $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
