Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Services/Payroll

Support accurate and timely payroll processing for a large healthcare workforce. As the Payroll Analyst, you will process payroll activity for assigned cost centers supporting approximately 1,500 to 2,500 personnel within a payroll department that supports over 14,000 Medical Center employees. You will review time and attendance records, process payroll and personnel transactions, resolve pay issues, reconcile leave accruals, and support compliance with UC policies, bargaining unit agreements, and departmental procedures.

In this role, you will:

• Review and process payroll and personnel transactions for assigned UCLA Health cost centers.
• Perform daily UKG Time and Attendance reviews for leaves of absence, new hires, separations, active review, retro review, and timesheet activity.
• Process transactions related to separations, transfers, leaves of absence, missing time, payroll corrections, and off-cycle checks.
• Research and resolve payroll questions from employees, department contacts, Human Resources, Financial Services Systems, Budget, and other partners.
• Review UCPath and UKG transactions for compliance with payroll policies, regulations, bargaining unit agreements, and departmental requirements.
• Identify and correct payroll discrepancies, employee appointment issues, late payments, and potential non-payment concerns before payroll deadlines.
• Update payroll system flags for UC and Medical Center-specific programs, including comp time elections, Pro-Opt, and other payroll programs.
• Process salary expense transfers, lump sum payments, and payroll activities related to hospital and non-hospital funds as assigned.
• Review, reconcile, and process leave accrual adjustments, compensatory time payoffs, holiday accruals, PTO payoffs, and separation-related accrual payments.
• Support special projects and additional payroll assignments from department leadership.

Salary Range:

$29.17 to $56.37 hourly


Job Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.
• 3 or more years of related experience.
• Ability to analyze and apply University of California payroll and personnel policies, bargaining unit agreements, departmental policies, and payroll procedures.
• Working knowledge of payroll processes, payroll policies, time and attendance systems, and organization-specific computer applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain payroll information, document resolutions, and work effectively with customers and colleagues.
• Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity, discretion, and sound judgment.
• Excellent organizational and prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and payroll cycles in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong math skills, including the ability to calculate ratios, decimals, and payroll-related calculations accurately.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and payroll or time and attendance software.
• Strong problem-solving, reasoning, and decision-making skills to resolve payroll issues accurately and appropriately.
• Strong interpersonal and service-orientation skills to support positive working relationships with customers and colleagues.

Preferred

• Experience working with payroll in a hospital environment.
• Experience supporting payroll and leave programs across multiple bargaining unit contracts is preferred.
• Working knowledge of internal payroll controls.
