Payroll Analyst

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Analyst to join our growing Finance team. This role, working with two other US team members, will be responsible for supporting the accurate and timely execution of multi-state U.S. payroll while serving as a key contributor to Workday Payroll implementation activities.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of progressive payroll experience and hands-on experience with Workday Payroll. Experience with ADP SmartCompliance is highly preferred.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Payroll Operations

  • Assist with bi-weekly U.S. payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees across multiple states.
  • Validate payroll data, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, deductions, taxes, and benefit elections.
  • Monitor and follow up with employees and managers to ensure timely submission and approval of payroll timecards, supporting accurate and on-time payroll processing.
  • Review payroll audit reports and investigate discrepancies to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing, payroll reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Support payroll tax compliance activities, including federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements.
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, managers, Human Resources, and Finance.

Workday Payroll Implementation

  • Serve as a key resource for Workday Payroll testing, validation, and ongoing optimization.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and external consultants to ensure successful implementation and adoption of payroll-related system functionality and integrations.
  • Overtime, assist in creating Workday reports to address our reporting needs.

Process Documentation

  • Document payroll business processes, workflows, controls, and system procedures.
  • Create and maintain payroll process narratives, standard operating procedures (SOPs), training guides, and how-to documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and internal controls within the payroll function.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and analyses for Finance, HR, and management.
  • Support payroll-related account reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
  • Leverage Workday reporting tools and Excel to analyze payroll data and identify trends or discrepancies.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive U.S. payroll experience.
  • Workday Payroll experience (required).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop clear process documentation and training materials.

Preferred

  • Experience with ADP SmartCompliance
  • Experience participating in Workday Payroll implementations or major system enhancements.
  • Experience working within a public company environment.
  • Familiarity with SOX controls and payroll-related internal control requirements.

Salary Range

The Salary Range for this position is $60,000 – $80,000. Actual salary offered to candidate will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, work location, relevant candidates’ experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
