Responsibilities

The Global Payments team at ByteDance provides payment solutions—including payment acceptance, disbursements, transaction monitoring, payment method management, foreign exchange conversion, accounting, reconciliation, wallet services, and other financial services—to ensure that our users have a seamless and secure payment experience across ByteDance platforms.

Responsibilities

This role is responsible for leading and managing payment, wallet, and financial services partnerships to deliver best-in-class solutions in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia. The successful candidate will also serve as a director of the relevant Malaysian legal entity and assume the associated governance, fiduciary, regulatory, and oversight responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the payments and financial services industry, a deep understanding of payment and wallet businesses and their broader ecosystem, excellent stakeholder-management skills, and a proven track record of driving results through strategic collaborations.

• Serve as a director of the relevant Malaysian legal entity and discharge applicable statutory, fiduciary, governance, and oversight responsibilities in accordance with local laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Provide appropriate oversight of the local entity’s strategy, operations, risk management, compliance, and internal controls.
• Represent the local entity and act as a senior point of contact in engagements with regulators, government authorities, industry associations, auditors, banking partners, and other relevant external stakeholders.
• Maintain a deep understanding of the Malaysian regulatory environment and anticipate developments affecting the company’s payment, wallet, and broader financial-services activities.
• Provide strategic leadership and subject-matter expertise across the payment and wallet ecosystem, including acquiring, issuing, payment processing, fund flows, safeguarding, settlement, reconciliation, disbursements, foreign exchange, fraud and transaction monitoring, and wallet operations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key payment and financial-services partners in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia, ensuring continuous alignment and collaboration.
• Identify and evaluate potential strategic partners to strengthen payment, wallet, and financial-services capabilities.
• Develop and execute partnership strategies aligned with the company’s objectives, regulatory obligations, and growth plans.
• Lead the negotiation and finalization of partnership agreements to achieve sustainable and mutually beneficial outcomes.
• Engage industry associations, regulators, and key authorities in collaboration with country business development teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Monitor and analyze payment, wallet, and financial-services performance metrics to identify opportunities, manage risks, and optimize outcomes.
• Work closely with internal teams—including Solution, Product, Compliance, Legal, Risk, Finance, and Operations—to integrate partner solutions, enhance processes, and develop scalable operating models.
• Stay current with industry trends, regulatory developments, emerging technologies, market dynamics, and the competitive landscape in payments, wallets, and financial services.
• Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership based on market analysis, regulatory developments, performance data, and partner feedback.
• Ensure the high-quality and timely delivery of strategic partnership programs and projects aligned with organizational goals.
• Establish clear objectives and key results for partnerships, track and report progress, and make adjustments as necessary to achieve agreed targets.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Law, Accounting, or a related field and 5 + years of relevant professional experience in payments, fintech, banking, financial services, business development, partnership management, or related strategic roles.
• Experience working with senior internal and external stakeholders across complex business or partnership initiatives and leading cross-functional and/or cross-border initiatives.
• Strong leadership, communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex partnerships and projects simultaneously.
• Strategic mindset with a strong sense of ownership and a results-oriented approach.
• Willingness to travel internationally when required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Significant experience in payments, wallets, fintech, banking, or financial services.
• Strong understanding of the Malaysian and Southeast Asian markets.
• Deep knowledge of payment and wallet business models, ecosystem participants, regulatory frameworks, operating processes, and associated risks.
• Demonstrated experience engaging with regulators, financial institutions, payment providers, and senior external stakeholders.
