Job Description

The Payments Project Strategist provides payment strategy recommendations, identifies product offering gaps, potential solutions and vendor fits while evaluating new industry products and offerings. This professional is responsible for project initiation, planning, execution, delivery and other project duties related to products within the Treasury and Payments department. Special focus will be given to payment products and services as well as monitoring and analyzing changes in the payment industry.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide high level payment strategy recommendations across payments, by identifying product offering gaps and potential solutions, analyzing potential vendor fit for UBT, evaluating new industry products and offerings in conjunction with business units and customers, looking for opportunities to leverage existing products between and across business units, and making recommendations to business units on enhancements or new products for their roadmaps.
  • Continually develop payment products and services to enhance profitability by expanding customer relationships while maintaining compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in the payments industry and determine the immediate and long-term impact of those changes on UBT products, as well as identify revenue implications and the likely effect on sales drivers.
  • Play a key role in the planning, testing, and implementation of initiatives and payment product enhancements and conversions before passing to business units.
  • Develop functional solutions to ensure all business requirements are covered.
  • Work with various stakeholders across the bank to gain guidance and approval of payment strategy through implementation. Maintain an intimate understanding of the existing product suite, customer workflow, and business needs.
  • Capably report the product status and communicate the strategic vision to organization.
  • Create internal-facing white papers on key topics within the payments industry to optimize education and utilization.
  • Assist in creating marketing and sales material and assist sales by serving as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and fostering a better understanding of Payments as a Service and industry trends.
  • Identify and analyze potential new partners/vendors.
  • Partner with design, analytic, and user experience colleagues to ensure an intuitive UX (User Experience)/UI (User Interface) that meets customer needs.
  • Provide business analysis and reporting on a periodic basis.
  • Ensure prioritized work aligns with broader corporate strategy, priorities, and direction.
  • Facilitate the full project lifecycle from initiation and planning through execution, status updates, and final delivery for team projects.
  • Track project activity, manage issues and risks, recommend actions and conflict resolution, and facilitate day-to-day coordination of projects.
  • Understand and adhere to all bank policies, laws and regulations applicable to their role. Complete compliance training and follow internal processes and controls as required.
  • Report all compliance issues, violations of law or regulations in accordance with the steps defined in bank policies.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, legal and/or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working in card services, wires, ACH, P2P products, etc. preferred.
  • Strong understanding of emerging payment technologies and how to implement them in a way that is profitable and compliant required.
  • Proficient in banking and card regulations.
  • Research and analytics, card services operation and management experience.
  • Obtain payment certifications.

Working Environment:
