Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Paving Technician inspects, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs paving equipment and related machinery. This role supports customer uptime by completing safe, efficient, high-quality repairs in the shop and at customer job sites.
Key Responsibilities
- · Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on paving equipment, including pavers, rollers, milling machines, and supporting machinery.
- · Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic system failures.
- · Complete repairs according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- · Conduct machine inspections and identify needed repairs or additional service recommendations.
- · Accurately document work performed, labor, parts used, and repair recommendations.
- · Communicate clearly with supervisors, service coordinators, customers, and other technicians.
- · Use diagnostic tools, service literature, schematics, and technical resources to support repairs.
- · Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment, including the assigned service vehicle and tools.
- · Participate in technical training and assist other technicians when needed.
Work Schedule and On-Call Expectations
- Overtime is a regular and expected part of this position. Work hours may extend beyond the normal schedule based on customer demand, equipment downtime, jobsite requirements, and seasonal paving activity.
- Paving Technicians will not participate in the standard Field Service on-call rotation. Because paving support is always on call, technicians in this role are expected to remain responsive to paving-related customer needs outside normal working hours as required. On-Call Paving
- Participation in an on-call rotation to provide timely support for paving operations as service requests arise. When a service call is received, team members communicate with one another to determine availability and identify the technician closest to the job site. The available technician best positioned to respond is then dispatched to provide service, minimizing travel time and ensuring prompt customer support. This approach allows for efficient coordination, quick response times, and dependable service coverage for paving operations.
Paving Experience Differential
This position includes an hourly differential based on verified paving equipment experience:
- Paving Experience Hourly Differential
- 0–3 Years $2.50 per hour
- 3+ Years $4.00 per hour
The applicable differential will be determined based on verified experience, qualifications, and demonstrated paving equipment knowledge.

Working Conditions
- · Frequent work in field and shop environments.
- · Regular travel to customer job sites.
- · Exposure to noise, dust, grease, weather, and active construction environments.
- · Regular overtime, extended hours, and after-hours response are expected based on paving customer needs.
