The Paving Department Manager is an exciting opportunity to join our Surfacing Division in Dunedin. You’ll coordinate asphalt paving projects across the region, build strong and capable teams, and maintain trusted relationships with clients and partners, helping us deliver safe, high‑quality work, positive customer experiences, and strong outcomes for our people and communities.

The Department runs a high performing paving crew along with milling capabilities. With a large forward programme this is an exciting opportunity to make your mark.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

As a Paving Department Manager, you are responsible for the leadership and management of the Paving department. The Department Manager will coordinate with the department supervisor, foreman, employees, plant resources and subcontractor teams. You could be involved in large projects in scope/size or multiple smaller projects.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

  • Overseeing pricing of work and preparation of tenders/ quotes/ estimates
  • Be aware of and oversee contractual procedures for managing changes to scope of work for direct work and sub-contractor agreements
  • Ensure reports, claims and programmes are prepared and submitted correctly and in a timely manner
  • Ensure forward planning, organising and ordering of contract subbies/ survey/ materials/ plant/ people
  • Ensure your department staff are provided with leadership and guidance to maximise performance
  • Ensure the delivery of all work to required standards

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

  • NZCE or significant industry experience preferred
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the contracting industry or similar
  • Experience in developing and maintaining a strong safety and quality culture in a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand health and safety and environmental standards and regulations.
  • Current class 1 driver licence
