Your Opportunity

As a recognized leader in pavement engineering and infrastructure/asset management consulting, our Infrastructure Management & Pavement Engineering (IMPE) team is looking for a Pavement Engineering Field Technician.

The position requires an individual who places safety on the job and the quality of the job as the top priorities. The expectations are that the job is done safely and correctly the first time.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Operating specialized pavement testing equipment, such as a Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), a high-speed profiler, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and/or pavement coring/boring equipment
  • Performing manual pavement condition assessments using a tablet to document the observed conditions of the pavement
  • Collecting samples of surface and sub-surface materials and documenting investigation information
  • Performing quality checks of collected pavement performance data and information
  • Working extensively in the field – on roadways, exposed to weather elements such as rain, wind, cold, and snow
  • Performing mild-to-medium physical activities, such as lifting of small equipment and pavement cores
  • Assisting Project Managers in preparing field documentation and organizing field activities
  • Organizing work in both the field and office environment and keeping detailed project records

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Able to work extensively in the field (urban, rural, or remote locations) – on roadways, exposed to weather elements such as rain, wind, cold, and snow
  • Mechanically and/or technically inclined with ability to troubleshoot, resolve potential equipment issues
  • Able to manage a dynamic work schedule and take on a diverse range of tasks which may include both field and office work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities;
  • Works independently without direct supervision and well with others
  • Capability to look at a problem, devise ways to resolve it, and communicate observations to team members;
  • Able to organize, prioritize, set and adjust priorities and schedules independently
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Proficiency with the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office products

Education and Experience

  • No formal education is required; however, education in a mechanical and/or a technical field are preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience with geotechnical investigations and/or pavement testing
  • Sound mechanical and/or technical background
  • Understanding of transportation engineering, and more specifically pavement assessment procedures and pavement materials

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
