As a Patient Transportation Aide, you willbe responsibleforthetimely,comfortableandaccuratetransference of patients, medicalequipment,and other related items.In thisposition, you play a critical role in ensuring patients have access to the attention and treatment they need, offering a unique opportunity to make a difference in their lives every day.You can alsobenefitfrom thenumerousprofessional and educational development resourcesprovidedby the Cleveland Clinic system.
Acaregiver in this position worksevenings from12:30PM – 9:00PM and 2:30PM – 11:00PM, including every other weekend and holiday.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Transportpatients and theirpersonal propertyusing wheelchairs,cartsand beds through the admission,dischargeand transfer procedures.
Transport patients withwithout IVs and oxygen to and fromPhysicalTherapy,OccupationalTherapy,Radiology,RadiationOncology,Physiologyand other departments, including themorgueas necessary.
Clean,sanitizeand accountfor transportation equipment, wheelchairsandpatientcartsand storein designated areas.
Provide wheelchairs for ACC,otherareasand visitors, restock portable oxygentanksand respond to all transport requests with a sense of urgency.
Activate andcompletetasks at the start or end location via phone system.
Notifynursingcaregivers, clinicians,techniciansor reception upon arrivalof the patient
Complete required logs and forms,including Critical Information.
Verifycorrect patient identification throughappropriate means(i.e.armband, chart, pager, DOB, etc.)for propermode of transportation and standard precautions.
Assistnursing caregiversinbeddingor movingpatientsfrom bed intowheelchairor ontostretcher
Consult with nursingcaregiversbefore lifting and transferringpatientsandobtainassistancewhen necessary.
Complete transportsquickly andefficiently andnotifydispatcherswhen assignments areinitiated,completedor when delays/cancellations areencountered
Understand and applyknowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection controlpracticesand proper body mechanics for lifting and moving patients.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
HighSchoolDiploma or GED
Demonstrated interestandaptitude
Expressedgenuine concern and care for patient welfare
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and transfer patients requiring much assistance with minimal help.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
