
Under the direction of the Staff Nurse, the Patient Sitter will be assigned to a specific patient and will remain in constant attendance with the patient to assist in maintaining the patient’s safety. The Patient Sitter must provide continuous observation of the patient until relieved by a qualified individual, and will report any observed changes in the patient’s condition/behavior to the patient’s nurse.
High school diploma or GED preferred. BLS certification from American Heart Association. Successful completion of University Hospital’s Handle with Care and Sitter Training Courses which are part of orientation and must be completed prior to performing the actual Patient Sitter role. Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations. Able to fulfill the physical demand requirements of the job as stated. FIT Testing required. Must attend Handle with Care Training annually and participate in bi-annual drills.
