ICE | SUSL Surgery Clinic Staff

The Patient Service Liaison (PSL) works under general supervision, counseling patients on their schedules, procedures, instructions, and collaborating with referring physicians. The position will be responsible for processing scheduling criteria, coordination of care, coordination of procedures, and coordination of patient obligations. This position works collaboratively with physicians, revenue, care teams, and scheduling to ensure appropriate financial clearance and scheduling is coordinated with the teams and the patients. The PSL is expected to demonstrate competency in the job elements of all the levels of scheduling, with an emphasis on care coordination and collaboration, keeping the needs of the patient a priority.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED or formal education plus seven years of training and/or experience in business office administration, customer service, or related work, of which one year of experience is in patient registration, scheduling, or billing in a healthcare environment, OR Bachelor's degree in a related field plus 3 years’ experience in patient registration, scheduling, or billing in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:
Schedules, reschedules, and coordinates appointments using hospital software by performing visit notifications to patients, pre-registration of patients as needed, and inputs and/or updates accurate patient information.
Calls patients to remind them of clinic and testing appointments.
Coordinates with referring providers to obtain appropriate referrals, records, and images. Follows up with referring providers on the status of all incoming referrals by phone or letter.
Schedules surgeries and/or tests. Issues prep instructions, sends out no-show letters, and letters to referring providers for no shows.
Responsible for blocking schedules in EPIC as appropriate.
Collaborates with appropriate staff regarding authorizations and pre-certifications, tracks pre-authorizations, and maintains referrals.
Coordinates referrals and communication for referring physicians with reschedules and no-shows.
Maintains records for tracking of patients with urgent, semi-urgent, and screening needs.
Coordinates outside records and documentation and ensures documents are entered into EPIC.
Collaborates with social work to arrange transportation and other social needs.
Counsels patients on any related financial information and connects patients with financial counselors as needed.
Attends required training and/or in-services.
Attends staff meetings and participates in the orientation and/or training of new staff. Participates in annual educational needs assessment.
Maintains required job skill competencies and completes skill assessment annually.
Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed.
Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.
Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines. Assists internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.
