Job Description

The Patient Service Specialist II provides ongoing, onsite customer support to patients in the ambulatory hospital setting.The position strives to ensure that every patient and their guest receives the best customer service possible and that they feel valued and cared for.This position requires that a proven record of medical ambulatory experience and the initiative to take on additional tasks and responsibilities.

Shift: Monday- Friday 7:30am-4:00pm

Responsibilities:

  • Works in a hospital outpatient environment with high acuity patients, multi-disciplinary clinical teams, complex clinic structures, procedures, imaging, and/or diagnostic testing.

  • Greets patients at the front desk.

  • Admits/Registers patients, including insurance verification and processing co-payments for both facility and provider, as appropriate.

  • Schedules appointments and ensures timing of future appointments meets eligibility requirements, as appropriate.

  • Ensures that patients receive excellent customer service and are updated with waiting times and any potential delays.

  • Performs a variety of general clerical functions including, but not limited to, answering the telephone, communicating messages through email or Epic, and making reminder calls.

  • Interacts with the Financial Clearance Center Team to coordinate information needed to communicate benefits and patient responsibility for the facility billing portion.

  • Assists with handling of electronic faxes and ensures requests are handled timely.

  • Scans and uploads patient information to EMR.

  • Works onsite in clinic

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field preferred.

  • Additional qualifications include prior work experience in a medical setting, knowledge of medical terminology, excellent interpersonal and computer skills.
