Patient Service Specialist

Location: Northfield, NJ

Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite (40 Hours/Week)

No Weekends

Are you passionate about helping patients and providing exceptional customer service? We are seeking a Patient Service Specialist to join a busy healthcare clinic in Northfield, NJ. This role is ideal for someone with medical office experience who enjoys working directly with patients, managing administrative responsibilities, and contributing to a positive patient experience.

Due to the high patient volume at this location, candidates with prior healthcare, medical office, insurance, or workers' compensation experience are strongly preferred.

What You'll Do

  • Greet and register patients upon arrival
  • Explain visit expectations and assist patients with check-out and follow-up scheduling
  • Schedule appointments in person and over the phone
  • Verify insurance eligibility, obtain authorizations, and manage payer approvals
  • Collect co-pays and process patient payments accurately
  • Prepare and review patient intake paperwork
  • Educate patients on financial responsibilities and insurance coverage
  • Communicate with attorney offices, insurance carriers, translation services, and internal teams
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
  • Support quality assurance initiatives and compliance standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional office environment

Qualifications

Required

  • Previous healthcare, medical office, patient registration, front desk, or patient services experience
  • Understanding of insurance verification, authorizations, payers, and patient financial responsibility
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to professionally handle difficult or emotional patient interactions
  • Comfortable navigating a desktop computer and Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience answering and managing a multi-line phone system
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred

  • Workers' compensation experience
  • Knowledge of insurance claims and authorization processes
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Prior experience in physical therapy, medical practice, outpatient clinic, or healthcare administration settings

Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Typing speed of 40+ WPM
  • Basic bookkeeping and accounts receivable knowledge
  • Proficiency with office equipment including printers, copiers, and fax machines

Schedule

Must be able to work the following schedule without modification:

  • Monday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
  • Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Friday: 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM

One-hour lunch break provided on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. No weekends required.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
