What You'll Do
The Patient Safety Specialist oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Patient Safety Program, ensuring alignment with organizational quality goals, regulatory requirements, and high‑reliability principles. The PSS is accountable for the protection, curation, and standardized reporting of patient safety data—particularly within the Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES)—and manages all associated submissions to the organization’s contracted Patient Safety Organization (PSO).
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience in risk management, patient safety, quality assurance, or a closely related healthcare field required.
1–3 years of clinical experience required (e.g., nursing, allied health, or other licensed clinical role). Current Registered Nurse, LPN, Respiratory Care Practitioner, or Physical Therapy License. If RN/LPN and license is a compact status, it must be in the RN/LPN's state of residence.
Preferred Requirements
Degree/licensure in a clinical field, Risk Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.
National certification(s) such as: CPHRM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management), CPPS (Certified Professional in Patient Safety), or CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality).
