Job Description

Working as a partnership, both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust have a shared vision for excellence in care for our patients and communities; with a set of strategic aims underpinning how we will achieve this.

The single corporate service is delivered across both organisation. You may be based at either IWT or PHU and individuals may be required to undertake business travel between sites. For leaders managing staff across multi-site locations, you will need to be visible and provide in person leadership. The arrangements and frequency will be agreed locally.

This vacancy is open to employees of Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust only.

NHS Band 5: Salary £32,073 - £39,043 per annum

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Single Corporate Services – Patient Outcomes team as a Patient Outcomes Officer.

This role sits within a collaborative service working across Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and Isle of Wight NHS Trust, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient outcomes across both organisations. As part of this shared corporate service, occasional travel between sites may be required in line with service needs and the staff mobility agreement.

Reporting to the Head of Patient Outcomes and accountable to the Associate Director of Quality Governance, you will play a key role in ensuring both Trusts meet their legal and regulatory requirements relating to patient outcomes.

Working closely with clinical, operational and corporate teams at all levels, you will support the delivery of a wide portfolio of patient outcomes projects. This includes contributing to organisational assurance, performance monitoring and continuous improvement through the effective monitoring, triangulation and reporting of patient outcomes data to inform decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of the patient outcomes agenda, including national audits, benchmarking and GIRFT.
  • Assist with the coordination and management of national clinical audits and regulatory programmes across both Trusts.
  • Collate, analyse and present complex patient outcomes data to inform reporting and decision-making.
  • Support the development of audit tools, questionnaires and data collection systems.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including partner organisations.
  • Provide clear summaries of reports and key information for senior stakeholders.
  • Participate in training programmes and awareness initiatives relating to clinical audit.
  • Support the development and maintenance of patient outcomes systems, databases and intranet content.
  • Manage and prioritise multiple projects, working independently while seeking guidance when required.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual with strong analytical and organisational skills to support the delivery of high-quality patient outcomes.

You will demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to handle complex and sensitive information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities when working with data and multiple information sources.
  • The ability to prioritise and manage competing demands effectively.
  • Confidence working both independently and collaboratively across teams and organisations.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and data management tools
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting service improvement and governance.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First Level Degree (or equivalent)
  • NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of significant experience in system administration
  • Excellent verbal, telephone and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative and deal with competing priorities.
  • Works autonomously but can seek advice when necessary/manages a discrete area of work.

Desirable

Experience of working in a clinical environment.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the role of patient outcomes and the wider national agenda
  • Understanding of how to gather data, compile information, and prepare basic reports
  • Advanced skills in the use of Information Technology using Microsoft Office with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software
  • Excellent skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing including attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
  • Planning and implementation skills including the ability to design, implement and evaluate all processes, systems and operating procedures
  • Organisational and presentation skills
  • Good customer service skills.
