The Patient Flow and Capacity Center (PFCC) at Boston Children’s Hospital serves as the central hub for coordinating patient admissions, transfers, and bed placement across the hospital. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the PFCC plays a critical role in optimizing hospital capacity, facilitating timely access to care, and ensuring patients receive the appropriate level of care.
Working in close collaboration with the Central Staffing Office (CSO), nursing leadership, medical teams, and interdisciplinary partners, the PFCC supports hospital-wide patient flow and staffing operations. Together, the PFCC and CSO anticipate and respond to evolving patient care needs, balance capacity with available resources, and navigate complex operational challenges.
The PFCC offers experienced nurses a unique opportunity to expand their clinical expertise beyond the bedside, strengthen leadership and critical thinking skills, and influence patient care on a hospital-wide level. Our team thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where collaboration, communication, and clinical judgment are essential to ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
