Department Summary:
The Department of Ophthalmology at Boston Children’s Hospital is dedicated to providing world-class vision care to infants, children, and young adults with complex eye conditions. We are seeking proactive and empathetic professionals to join our administrative team.

Candidates will be evaluated and placed at Level 1 or Level 2 based on experience, competencies, and alignment with career ladder criteria.
Level 1 — Patient Experience Representative
Experience: Entry-Level Role – Experience Not Required
Salary Range: $19.06/hr – $27.64/hr
Typical Responsibilities:

  • Patient & Customer Support: Demonstrates effective and empathetic customer service that supports departmental and hospital operations.
  • Administrative & Financial Tasks: Obtain basic authorizations and referrals; enter billing and treatment codes; reconcile payments and assist with preparing daily deposits.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Perform duties across multiple areas of the department to meet operational demands and maintain workflow continuity.
  • Credentialing & Onboarding Support: Assist with physician and trainee credentialing, onboarding, and compliance tracking by gathering and organizing required documentation.
  • Event & Program Assistance: Provide administrative and logistical support for program events and trainee onboarding activities.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintain accuracy in data entry and documentation to support smooth credentialing and operational processes.



Level 2 — Sr. Patient Experience Representative
Experience: 1+ Years of Experience
Salary Range: $19.83/hr – $29.49/hr
Typical Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Patient Support: Deliver highly effective and empathetic customer service; responds to patient needs and escalated concerns, ensuring a high-quality experience and timely resolution.
  • Financial & Insurance Oversight: Independently manage authorizations, referrals, billing, and coding processes; ensure accuracy in payment reconciliation and deposit preparation.
  • Technical Guidance & Problem Solving: Serve as a resource to staff by providing technical guidance, troubleshooting issues, and responding to questions related to program operations and goals.
  • Operational Flexibility: Proactively support multiple functional areas within the department, anticipating needs and adjusting priorities to meet operational demands.
  • Credentialing & Compliance Support: Assist with physician and trainee credentialing, onboarding, and compliance tracking processes; ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Event & Program Assistance: Assist with program events and trainee onboarding activities, ensuring smooth logistics and a positive participant experience.
  • Workflow Accuracy & Improvement: Ensure meticulous attention to detail across operational workflows; identify risks, prevent errors, and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.



Schedule & Benefits

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:30-5, Hybrid eligibility.
  • Sign-On Bonus: This role is eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus (Note: Internal candidates and former BCH employees who have worked at the hospital within the past 2 not eligible)
