TheAssociate Director, International Patient Engagement, Latin Americaat Vertex Pharmaceuticals reports to theDirector, International Patient Engagement, Distributor Marketsandis responsible forsupporting the company’s goals by creating and executing patient engagement strategy forLatin America This position will work closely with theDirector, International Patient Engagement, Distributor Marketsand the Senior Director, Northern Europe, Canada, Australia and Distributorsto help lead the company’s ongoing efforts to build and sustain meaningful relationships and collaborations to support the needs of patients and advance our company’s goals inLatin America The rolefocusesonCystic FibrosisTheAssociate Director, International Patient Engagement, Latin Americawillbe responsible forcountry-level campaigns inCystic FibrosisinLatin AmericaThe role willbe responsible forleading and executing the company’s advocacy strategy by working across several functional areas, including market access, communications, policy, and medical affairs,OBIEwithin their designated geography

Job Responsibilities

  • Reporting directly toDirector, International Patient Engagement, Distributor Marketsandworking hand in handwith theSenior Director, Northern Europe, Canada, Australia and Distributors and the Vice President, Patient and Community Engagementto help execute the company’s patientengagementstrategy including tacticalimplementation

  • Serve as liaison between the patient community and VRTX; developing andleveraginghigh-level relationships with patient advocacy groupsin Cystic Fibrosisatnationaland local levelsinLatin Americato achieve Vertex goals, bring value to patients and enhance the Company’s standing andreputation

  • Collaborating withBusinessUnit Leads and x-functional teams:Sit on the country leadership team,partnerwithMarket Access, Communications,GAPP,Medical,Regulatory,Compliance, Legaltoidentifybarriers to access for our portfolio; represent the perspective of the patient community in this work

  • Work and align with IPE international disease focused team to discuss and execute tactics and deliver company’sgoals

  • Develop programming withinCystic Fibrosisin partnership with the patient community on the patient community’s agenda

  • Build long-term, sustainable relationships with not onlyCystic Fibrosispatient groups but also the broaderLatin Americancommunity

  • Bean appropriate partnerto both the patient community and the Grants and Donations committee in effective and compliant management of the grants and donations process

  • Accuratefinancial managementofallocatedbudgets– working hand in hand withDistributor Marketsteam and financialbusinesspartners

  • Ensuretimely,appropriateand legally approved communication with the patient community on the above

  • Appoint and managepatient engagementconsultantsinLatin Americato deliver on businessobjectiveswhilemaintainingcompliance with VRTXpolicies;

  • In partnership with communications team,integrateVertex’scommunicationsobjectiveswith the patient advocacy strategy andidentifyadditionalcommunicationsopportunitieswhereappropriate;

  • Provide strategic input into the development and resource prioritization for the Company’s annual patient advocacyplan;and the local business plan for each country withinthegeography

  • I dentifyingand pursuingadditionalopportunities to advance our company’s businessobjectives;

  • Fulfilling other duties/projects asassigned;

  • Serve as an early warning toidentifythreats and opportunities that mayimpactthe business and patientcommunity;

  • Exemplifying Vertex’s core valuesand the Vertex phenotypein fulfilling these job duties,in particularthe Company’s core valueregardingits commitment to patients.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong and relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry in patient advocacy, market access, public health policy, governmentrelations

  • Bachelor’sdegree

  • Demonstrated outstanding strategic planning,communicationand presentationskills

  • Ability to travelwithin assigned region as well as within International as required

  • Fluency in Spanish

  • Very goodunderstanding ofalocal healthcare systeminLatin America, which a special focusonunderstanding of local HTA systems,policy environment, and reimbursement.

  • Experience in working with patient communities,very goodunderstandingofa compliant way of working with PAGswithin the PMCPA code, the importance of patient's insights and compliant dialoguewith them

  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams across several functional areas, including market access, communications, policy, and medical affairs, compliance, legal

  • Ability to navigate seamlessly in a matrixed environment, able to work in situations with levels of ambiguity with independence

  • Experience in patient advocacy, government affairs, communications, marketaccessor public policy. A deep understanding of the HTA/pricing/access systems relevant to the geography and therapy area

  • Working knowledge and appreciation of the complexities of the drug development process and regulatoryrequirements

  • Understanding of the patient and caregiverlivedexperience in (especiallyCystic Fibrosis)to include diagnosis, treatment, and treatment options

  • Detail-oriented, self-initiating, well-organized and capable of managing multiple projectssimultaneously.

This role is based in Mexico City with min 3 days working in the office.

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
