In the Float Pool, you will work with diverse populations of patients innumerousunits, departments and/or locations while learning from many of our best caregivers.As a Patient Companion, you will helpfacilitateCleveland Clinic's mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you willassistRNs, physicians,dietitiansand other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. A caregiver in this position worksnights from 6:45PM – 7:15AM, including every other weekendand 2 holidays per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Assistwith direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs,weightand pulse oximetry.If assigned to a closed unit, provide constant observation only for safety for three to four patients.

  • Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters,tubesor other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.

  • Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests,transfersandambulation

  • Collect patient specimens for laboratory testing.

  • Identifyand report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.

  • Follow protocols andinitiateCPR and other emergency measures asrequired

  • Acknowledge patient concerns and needs and notifyappropriate staffforassistance

  • Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • HighSchoolDiploma or GED

  • Completion of a hospital-based patient companion training program OR equivalent experience OR enrollment at an accredited school of nursing and completion of a nursing fundamentals course or completion of a hospital-based NA/PC orientation

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skincareand vital signs

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross-If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it within three months of hire

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
