Unit Description:
The Medical Surgical Unit is located on the 6th floor, Tower B of the Gateway Campus. The unit cares for patients from 18 years of age through geriatric with medical surgical diagnosis that may or may not require telemetry monitoring. Scope of care will include medical surgical patients with complication due to pneumonia, COPD & asthma exacerbations, heart failure, and viral/bacterial infections with ability to monitor telemetry. Will also care for acute stroke and overflow cardiac and renal patients. We also house the central telemetry monitoring station for the entire campus.
Deaconess Gateway Hospital has been designated as a certified Primary Stroke Center by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP). This unit is a designated stroke unit. Our staff is very knowledgeable about quality standards of care, which we meet and exceed at our facility. Nurses working on this unit receive training in ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale. Our wide-range of diagnosis make this unit a great place to learn.
