Medina Hospital’s 3 South nursing unit is a 32-bed unit that specializes in general medical surgical care for adult and geriatric patients with an emphasis on observation. 3 South delivers care to a variety of other conditions including pneumonia, diabetes, sepsis, GI bleed, cellulitis, COPD exacerbation, various cancers, kidney stones, and bowel obstructions. This unit also cares for, but is not limited to, patients undergoing hysterectomies, thyroidectomies, colon resections and appendectomies. As a PCNA on this team, you will provide or assist with basic direct patient care activities under the supervision of an RN.

This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working shifts varying between 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. with weekend requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and inserting/removing urinary Foley catheters.

• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.

• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period

• Nursing students who completed one clinical rotation from a nursing school are required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross prior to hire

• Proficient in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at minimum junior high level as scored on the employment assessment

• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
