Weston Hospital’s Intermediate Intensive Care Unit (IMCU) provides care to patients who require a higher level of care than routine, yet not to the intensity of critical care. As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients. This position offers the ability to pursue educational advancement, higher positions and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you have an excellent opportunity to start your nursing career and work in a supportive and caring healthcare setting.

A caregiver in this role works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with rotating weekend requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Assist nursing caregivers, promote patient comfort and carry out nursing orders.

  • Transport patients by wheelchair, bed or stretcher from the department/unit.

  • Conduct EKG and phlebotomy duties.

  • Attend to patient and family needs and problems.

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing, toileting and hygiene.

  • Report pertinent information regarding patient condition to appropriate nursing staff.

  • Assist patients with tray set up and feeding.

  • Restock supplies daily and order supplies from Central Supply.

  • Document care provided in the medical record.

  • Collect and transport specimens.

  • Provide RNs/LPNs with accurate and timely intake/output data, vital signs, blood glucose results and other data, note changes from prior measurement and communicate accordingly.

  • Respond to call lights within five minutes or communicate inability to do so.

  • Report patient needs to an RN/LPN immediately.

  • Assist in the removal of equipment (I.e. IV pumps, commodes, PAS) in preparation for room cleaning.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period

  • Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross prior to hire

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate of an approved program for nursing assistants or previous hospital training

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

  • Six months of experience in an acute care hospital setting

  • Prior patient-care experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
