Indian River Hospital’s Scully Endoscopy Center is used for outpatient endoscopy and special procedures. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to help physicians more thoroughly explore internal areas of the body, such as the colon,esophagusand smallbowelAs a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) on the Endoscopy team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients. This position offers the ability to pursue educational advancement, higher positions and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you have an excellent opportunity to start your nursing career, gain extensive hands-on experience in various procedures and diverse populations, shadow with expert physicians and work in a supportive and caring healthcare setting.
A caregiver in this position worksdays from 6:00AM – 2:30PM or 7:30AM – 3:00PM
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assist nursing caregivers, promote patient comfort and carry out nursing orders.
Transport patients by wheelchair, bed or stretcher from the department/unit.
Conduct EKG and phlebotomy duties.
Attend to patient and family needs and problems.
Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing and hygiene.
Report pertinent information regarding patient condition to appropriate nursing staff.
Assist patients with tray set up and feeding.
Restock supplies daily and order supplies from Central Supply.
Document care provided in the medical record.
Collect and transport specimens.
Provide RNs/LPNs with accurate and timely intake/output data, vital signs, blood glucose results and other data, note changes from prior measurement and communicate accordingly.
Respond to call lights within five minutes or communicate inability to do so.
Report patient needstoan RN/LPN immediately
Assist in the removal of equipment (e.g., IV pumps, commodes, PAS) in preparation for room cleaning.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period
Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required prior to hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an approved Program for Nursing Assistants or previous hospital training
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification
Six months of experience in an acute care hospital setting
