Selected applicants will have the opportunity to work in inpatient care teams while receiving sponsorship for Fall 2026 Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training through the University of Alaska Fairbanks Community & Technical College (UAF CTC).

The CNA Sponsorship includes funding for CNA tuition, books, fees, and state certification and registry costs, removing barriers to entering the healthcare profession and enabling valuable experience in a hospital environment.

This position is an unlicensed assistive personnel role responsible for supporting nursing staff in delivering safe, timely, and patient-centered care in the inpatient hospital setting. Provides routine direct patient care, assists with mobility and activities of daily living, collects basic clinical data, and performs delegated tasks consistent with demonstrated competencies and organizational policy. Documents tasks and patient care in the electronic medical record and contributes to efficient unit operations and promotes an excellent patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care including assistance with activities of daily living, hygiene, mobility, nutritional support, and to promote patient comfort and safety.
  • Prepares patients for care activities, examinations, and procedures, and serves as a chaperone when needed.
  • Collects and documents vital signs, intake/output, and other delegated clinical measurements in accordance with policy, ensuring accurate and timely medical record entry.
  • Performs delegated clinical tasks consistent with demonstrated competencies and state scope of practice, which may include EKG acquisition and monitoring, blood draws, and specimen collection.
  • Recognizes and promptly reports changes in patient condition, abnormal findings, and patient concerns to licensed nursing staff to support continuity of care.
  • Assists with patient transport and transfers within the unit and throughout the facility, including support for pre- and post-operative patient movement as assigned.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment by cleaning equipment, disinfecting patient care areas, participating in room turnover, and following infection control and OSHA standards.
  • Monitors and maintains supply levels, stocks patient care and storage areas, completes supply requisitions, and tracks unit equipment such as scanners, laptops, and monitoring devices.
  • Provides clerical and communication support including answering phones and patient call lights, managing forms, assembling and maintaining patient charts, scanning/uploading documents, assisting with orders, and supporting scheduling or patient instructions when needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Requires knowledge normally obtained through a medical terminology course.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills as well as effective human relations and communication skills. Working knowledge of computer literacy and keyboarding skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
