Become a Patient Access Trainee!
Are you passionate about helping others and eager to start a career in healthcare? Our Patient Access Training Programs offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build valuable skills in a supportive, dynamic environment.
About the Program
Opportunity: These programs are designed to prepare you for customer service or administrative support roles, working directly with patients in hospitals and clinical offices.
Comprehensive Training: Benefit from on-the-job training, observations, and virtual instruction.
Earn While You Learn: Paid training is $16–$18 per hour, depending on the placement site, for 40 hours per week. Program length may be 12 or 14 weeks, depending on the placement.
Training Schedule: Training hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., 100% in person.
Mentorship and Training: Support is provided to promote successful program completion, and a coach will work with trainees for six months after the program to support a potential transition to full-time employment.
Program Support: We aim to remove barriers to full participation in the training program.

Applicants should be able to work fully in person at one or more satellite locations.
Veteran & Career Transition Friendly: The Patient Access Trainee Program is well-suited for individuals with backgrounds in healthcare administration, customer service, or patient services. Veterans and service members will find their skills highly transferable. Relevant military occupational specialties include:
Army MOS 70A – Health Care Administrator
Air Force AFSC 4A0X1 – Health Services Management
Navy Hospital Corpsman (administrative track)
In addition, this role aligns with the civilian ONET code 29-2099.08 – Patient Representatives*, which covers professionals who assist patients in navigating healthcare systems, scheduling, and customer service.

Program Dates
Start dates vary by training pathway and department need. Opportunities may begin monthly or through scheduled cohorts offered several times per year. Specific start dates will be reviewed during the screening process.

Boston Children's Hospital is a 404-bed comprehensive center for pediatric health care. As one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, Boston Children's offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. (Our services can begin interventions at 15 weeks gestation and in some situations we also treat adults.)
We have approximately 25,000 inpatient admissions each year and our 200+ specialized clinical programs schedule 557,000 visits annually. Last year, the hospital performed more than 26,500 surgical procedures and 214,000 radiological examinations.
