The Patient Access Specialist (PAS) provides access to services provided at the Child Study Center. This position is primarily responsible to facilitate patient scheduling, registration, referral, authorization, insurance eligibility, and financial clearance flow by gathering patient demographic and third-party information with a high degree of accuracy. This position requires a high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, co-workers and families. Critical to this position is understanding the revenue cycle and the importance of evaluating and securing all appropriate financial resources for patients to maximize reimbursement to the Child Study Center / CCMC. This position also requires timely completion, preparation, and deployment of legal, ethical and compliance related documents that must be presented and thoroughly explained to the patient at the time of registration. The PAS is responsible for maintaining a sound knowledge of JCAHO, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, HIPAA, HMOs, PPOs, Commercial Payors, and departmental/System policies and procedures. Maintain knowledge of all tasks performed in the various Patient Access Service areas is necessary to provide optimum internal and external customer satisfaction. This position does not provide patient care but may be performed in a patient care area.
Education & Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
1-2 years of Hospital admissions or physician’s office experience required.
Ability to type, spell, write or print legibly with general knowledge of personal computers required.
Strong interpersonal communication, documentation and customer service skills required.
Medical terminology preferred.
Knowledge of health care insurance and managed care preferred.
EPIC scheduling experience preferred.
Hours:
Monday to Friday: 8:00am to 5:00pm
