By joining the team as a Patient Access Representative, you will provide a comprehensive set of business and financial related services during the patient access process on the day the patient arrives at Union Hospital to receive healthcare services. You will work face-to-face with diverse populations of patients at both the window and bedside, collecting their financial, insurance, medical, and demographic information to check them in, complete their registration, and leave a positive, lasting impression. A caregiver in this role works 11:00pm to 7:30am on a 4-week rotation. This rotation is set-up as Monday & Sunday (week 1); Sunday, Thursday, Friday (Week 2); Thursday, Friday, Saturday (Week 3); Sunday, Friday (Week 4). Rotational holidays are required.

Please note that if you are selected, you will need to attend a 2-week EPIC training starting on your first day. The training is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm on-site at Main Campus. You will need to attend all days of this training. Once the training is complete, you will then start work on your assigned schedule/shift. In order to be considered, you will need to acknowledge that you are able to attend the full duration of the training.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform registration and obtain information about demographics, insurance, medical and financial.
  • Crosstrain to staff all areas of patient access, such as front desk, admitting office, ED and cash register.
  • Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training of new caregivers.
  • Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in a customer facing role OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience OR a Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders OR completion of course within one year
  • Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
  • In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
