Caregivers in the Patient Registration Area are the first point of contact for many of Akron General’s patients. As a Patient Access Representative, you will ensure patients and families have an exceptional experience with each interaction. In this role, you will be in a call center environment, answering incoming calls and placing outgoing callsbetween patients,officesand other departments.This position is a great steppingstonetoothers in Customer Service or departments within the Cleveland Clinic system.

Acaregiver in this position works Monday-Friday from9:30AM – 6:00PM

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Register, schedule and pre-register patients for inpatient,emergencyand outpatient tests and procedures.

  • Educate patientsregardingtheir benefit levels, review eligibility, prepare estimates,advisepatients of out-of-pocket expenses, collect payments, applypaymentsandmaintainsecurity of payments.

  • Completeaccurateface-to-face and phone interviews to obtain demographic, insurance, medical and financial information.

  • Schedule services and provide the physician’s office and/or patient withaccuratedate and time information, room availability, physician availability, typical time needed to complete the procedure and/or procedures that conflict with each other.

  • Complete questionnaires toassistdepartments withpreparing forpatients.

  • Utilize the screening tool for self-paypatients todetermineanypossible payersource.

  • Refer patients to financial counselors.

  • Advisepatients ofand generate Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) and/or Assumption of Financial Responsibility (AFR).

  • Obtain, scan and index physician orders.

  • Cross train tostaffall patient access areas.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • HighSchoolDiploma or GED

  • One year of customer service work experience OR higher education and training

  • Proficiencyin data entry

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Excellent customer service skills

Preferredqualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • One year of hospitalclericalor billing work experience

  • Call center experience

  • Insurance knowledge


Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
