Position Summary

The Patient Access Verification Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the centralized Patient Access Verification team to ensure patient accounts are accurately prepared prior to the date of service. This role manages day-to-day operations related to chart preparation, eligibility and benefits verification, referral validation, demographic verification, pre-registration, appointment confirmation, and denial prevention activities. The Manager is accountable for team performance, quality outcomes, operational efficiency, revenue integrity, and process improvement initiatives that support patient access and reduce preventable reimbursement delays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to Patient Access Verification Specialists and Team Leads.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and retain high-performing team members.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, attendance, and service-level performance.
  • Oversee eligibility verification, referral validation, demographic review, appointment confirmation, and pre-registration workflows.
  • Conduct quality audits and ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle to reduce preventable denials.
  • Develop KPI reporting and operational dashboards.
  • Collaborate with clinic leaders and operational departments to improve patient access processes.

QualificationsEducation

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in patient access, insurance verification, patient registration, scheduling, revenue cycle, or healthcare operations required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred.
  • Experience managing centralized verification or patient access teams strongly preferred.
  • Multi-site healthcare, ambulatory care, specialty practice, or physician practice experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong knowledge of insurance eligibility and benefits verification processes.
  • Understanding referral management, pre-registration, registration accuracy, and patient access workflows.
  • Familiarity with revenue cycle operations and denial prevention strategies.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), practice management systems, and patient access technology platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, reporting, and dashboard development.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and translate findings into actionable operational improvements.

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Physical Requirements: Must possess manual dexterity to operate office machines including computer and calculator; stooping and bending to handle files and supplies; and mobility to complete errands or deliveries. Includes handling of sharps and chemicals.
