The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for:
Completing patient registrations, discharges, and transfers
Collecting and verifying demographic and insurance information
Obtaining required consent signatures
Ensuring all necessary forms are completed and distributed
Communicating important details regarding a patient’s visit or admission
Accuracy, efficiency, and strong patient interaction skills are key in this role.

Shift Length:
8-hour shifts
Shift Window:
Start: Between 6:00 AM – 8:30 AM
End: Between 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM
(Exact shift time depends on department scheduling.)
Weekends:
Rotating weekend schedule as well as holidays as determined by the department.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience
Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience required
Experience with typing, word processing, and computer applications required
Previous experience in a medical office, registration, billing, or familiarity with medical terminology preferred
Greets patients and family members warmly and offers assistance upon arrival.
Completes all steps of pre-registration and registration, including patient interviews, verifying insurance details, collecting photo identification, obtaining necessary signatures for consent, and distributing required patient documentation.
Coordinates accurate data collection to verify insurance eligibility and determine financial obligations, which may include collecting co-pays.
Ensures compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission, CDC, TMH, and all applicable state and federal regulations. Provides required informational materials at all patient access points.
Responds appropriately to emergency procedures.
Assists or transports patients in wheelchairs to their service location.
Communicates effectively with co-workers and management regarding patient issues, follow-ups, or concerns.
Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function effectively in high-pressure situations.
Prioritizes patient assistance based on medical urgency, ensuring the most critical patients are served first.
Assists with onboarding and training of new staff.
Maintains professionalism and respectful conduct with patients, visitors, peers, and leadership at all times.
Willing to work flexible hours, including night and weekend shifts, and to cover staffing gaps as needed.
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and patient service skills, with emotional maturity and sound judgment when interacting with diverse populations.
Supports and communicates the mission, vision, and goals of the department and Memorial Health.
Understands and adheres to department policies and procedures.
Engages in self-directed learning and participates in annual continuing education activities.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned by the manager.
