Job Description

About SailFuture Academy

The SailFuture Academy is a purposefully disruptive, private nonprofit high school in St.

Petersburg, Florida. We believe that our work should be meaningful and purposeful. Our ideal candidate is passionate about SailFuture’s mission and is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of impacted youth within our community.

Our mission is to empower at-risk students to achieve economic freedom and social mobility through character development and pragmatic, project-based learning. A SailFuture Academy Educator has a unique opportunity to utilize real-world curriculum to teach students the skills, character, and knowledge necessary to navigate their life and career successfully.

Pathways Discipline

The SailFuture Academy pathways discipline bridges the gap between high school and post-graduation by providing the skills, training, and exposure needed to support a successful transition towards independence.

This discipline guides students through a multi-year process of personal discovery, career exploration, and postsecondary planning. From eighth to eleventh grade, students identify their strengths, values, and goals; investigate industries, technical trades, military options, apprenticeships, and higher education; and learn to align their interests with real-world opportunities.

Through reflective projects, career portfolios, and personal capstones, students develop a clear, actionable plan for independence and success after graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 8 hours of engaging, hands-on instruction across four pathway courses for 8th-11th grades.
  • Deliver 4 hours of 10th-grade level Math/ELA curriculum
  • Review, grade, and write feedback on student work, including their components, projects, and assignments, using rubrics and guidelines.
  • Establish meaningful relationships with students, fostering trust and a supportive environment for innovation and learning.
  • Assist in the writing, planning, and development of curriculum for all pathways courses

The Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years of professional experience
  • Experience leading teams/classrooms
  • Previous experience in teaching, training, or education
  • Possess a ‘whatever it takes’ and ‘ownership’ mentality
  • Flexible and able to thrive in a start-up environment
  • Successful track record working with at-risk youth
  • Ability to write and develop meaningful curriculum

Compensation:

  • $30/hour, total of 21 hours per week, Monday - Wednesday 9am - 4pm
  • Unpaid Time-off between academic terms during regularly scheduled break weeks
  • 5 hours of planning/curriculum development per week
