Job Description

PathGroup is seeking an AP/CP Board-Certified or Board-Eligible General Surgical Pathologist to join a hospital-based practice in Statesboro, Georgia. Cytopathology training is a plus but not required. Candidates based in the Savannah, Pooler, Hinesville, and Augusta areas are encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time, on-site position in Statesboro, GA (Monday-Friday). This is an exceptional opportunity to lead and shape a local pathology service while benefiting from the resources and subspecialty support of PathGroup’s national network. This role is ideal for a pathologist who values autonomy, enjoys general surgical pathology, and is comfortable working independently with strong remote support from a collegial team.

About The Practice:

  • CAP-accredited laboratory supporting a community-based regional medical center
  • Typical case volume: ~20–25 cases per day (excluding cases read remotely)
  • Case mix includes primarily small biopsies, gyn biopsies and excisions
    • GI, breast biopsies and excisions
    • Appendixes, tonsils, gallbladders, hernias
    • Hysterectomies, amputations
    • Skin cases (lipomas, cysts, etc.)
  • Larger excisions are uncommon; overflow support available
  • Cytology, hematopathology, GU (including prostate/bladder), and complex cases supported remotely if desired
  • Single pathologist practice with strong collaboration from off-site PathGroup colleagues
  • Cohesive, highly supportive group culture

Practice Details

  • Call is light, and the overwhelming majority of calls can be handled remotely
  • ROSE procedures performed regularly (no requirement to sign out cytology if not trained)
  • No FNA procedures required
  • Frozen sections are infrequent
  • Grossing support available (PAs/technical staff)
  • Subspecialty consultation readily available across PathGroup’s network

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sign-out of general surgical pathology cases ± cytology cases. (Cytology is optional based on training and preference)
  • Perform frozen sections and intraoperative consultations (infrequent)
  • Participate in ROSE procedures (no requirement to sign out cytology)
  • Clinical pathology oversight as needed
  • Participate in tumor boards once per month, and interdisciplinary discussions
  • Lead or support laboratory quality and operational initiatives

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
  • AP/CP Board Certification or Board Eligibility
  • Eligible for Georgia medical license
  • Strong diagnostic skills and commitment to quality
  • Comfortable practicing independently with regional support available
