Job Description

NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Kawader Research Assistant position in Raman Spectroscopy for Smart Diagnostics within the Laboratory for Advanced Bio-Photonics and Imaging (LAB-π).

LAB-π is seeking a Research Assistant to advance Raman spectroscopy-based smart diagnostics. The research explores how molecular signatures in biological samples, combined with advanced data analysis, can help identify disease-related biomarkers.

Applications may span multiple health conditions, including systemic lupus erythematosus and other diseases, in collaboration with clinical and research partners. The long-term aim is to develop rapid, label-free tools that complement existing diagnostic methods.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and carry out Raman spectroscopy measurements on biological and, where applicable, clinical samples under approved protocols.
• Prepare samples, organize experiments, document procedures, and maintain accurate laboratory records.
• Preprocess Raman spectra and develop reproducible workflows for data analysis and biomarker discovery.
• Apply statistical methods and support machine learning approaches for classification and interpretation.
• Work with multidisciplinary collaborators and contribute to lab meetings, reports, manuscripts, and conference presentations.

Supervision

This position is supervised by Azhar Zam.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering or sciences, electrical engineering, physics, computer science, data science, or a related field.
• Research laboratory experience, strong organizational skills, and careful attention to documentation.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent written and spoken English.
• Basic scientific programming experience, preferably in Python or MATLAB.
