Job Description

About the Opportunity

Greenberg Traurig (GT), a global law firm and consistent member of the Am Law Global 100, is seeking a Patent Attorney or Patent Agent to join our Tel Aviv office. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of Israel's world-class innovation ecosystem and the US patent system, collaborating closely with GT's US-based patent attorneys while serving a primarily Israeli client base. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package.

The Role

The Patent Agent will work from our Tel Aviv office, providing high-level US patent prosecution services to Israeli and global companies, startups, research institutions, and individual inventors seeking protection for their innovations in the United States. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with GT's attorneys across our US offices as part of GT's global platform, and will be expected to operate with a significant degree of independence, manage complex matters, and contribute to the growth of the practice.

We are open to candidates across a range of technical backgrounds. Relevant technical disciplines include, but are not limited to, electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, software, robotics, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, life sciences and related fields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently drafting and prosecuting complex US patent applications across relevant technical disciplines
  • Taking a leading role in collaborating with Israeli clients to identify innovations and develop comprehensive, strategic patent protection programs
  • Managing large and complex patent prosecution dockets with minimal supervision
  • Conducting and overseeing patent landscape analyses and freedom to operate assessments
  • Providing sophisticated advice to clients on patentability, validity, and infringement matters
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Coordinating with and supporting US-based GT attorneys on client matters and firm initiatives
  • Leading IP due diligence in connection with venture capital investments, mergers, and acquisitions
  • Managing and supervising US and foreign patent portfolios on behalf of clients
  • Mentoring and supporting more junior patent professionals within the team as the practice grows

Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • Registration with the USPTO (admission to the US patent bar is required)
  • A strong technical background, with at least a bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific discipline such as biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or an equivalent field; an advanced degree is a plus
  • A minimum of 3 years of prior law firm experience in US patent prosecution
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex patent prosecution matters and client relationships
  • Deep familiarity with all aspects of US patent prosecution, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications before the USPTO
  • An excellent academic record
  • Superior organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, in English
  • A demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional client service
  • A creative, strategic, and commercially minded approach to patent prosecution
  • Experience with foreign patent prosecution, familiarity with the Israeli innovation and technology sectors, and existing relationships with Israeli clients or institutions are strongly preferred. Experience with patent litigation is a plus.

Experience

A minimum of 3 years of US patent prosecution experience at a law firm is required. Candidates with more extensive experience are encouraged to apply.

To apply, please submit the following:

  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • Cover letter
