Bakers are responsible for the preparation of recipes and food items. This includes batch production, finishing , banquet plating and a la minute dessert production. They also maintain the general cleanliness of the bake shop and various pastry stations throughout the organization. They are to be organized, precise, detailed oriented and able to follow directions with flexibility based on production demands. The Baker in the absence of the Chef or Stewarding Supervisor/Manager can direct stewarding to do their job duties.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Ability to lift 50 to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to push or pull 150 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, bend, lift, and reach through shift.
  • Ability to read and follow directions from set recipes.
  • Ability to mix formulas accurately to ensure consistency.
  • Posses a team player attitude and be flexible.
  • Understand and have basic knowledge of sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to produce basic pastry components including, cakes, breads, creams, mousses, glazes and dessert sauces.
  • Ability to perform preparation work in a timely manner.
  • Clean work area and kitchen on a regular basis.
  • Ensures ingredient supply levels are accurate.
  • Maintain station par levels and supply for shift.
  • Ability to withstand high temperatures for a long duration of time.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and guests effectively.
  • Possesses basic knife skills.
  • Ability to do basic math calculations necessary to determine batch sizes and scale recipes.
  • Energetic and very outgoing, enthusiastic.
  • Neat appearance with good personal hygiene a must.
  • Reliable and conscientious.
  • Ability to cooperate and interact effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment.
  • Must have the versatility to meet the mental and physical demands of the area.
  • Requires good dexterity in wrists, hands and fingers.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting and reaching throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift 50 to 60 lbs.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two to three (2-3) years experience in a professional cooking environment.
