Description

We are looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, and proactive Pastoral Mentor to join our Pastoral team on a full time, permanent basis working 40 week term time only.

This role plays a key part in supporting our students to achieve their full potential. We require a driven individual with the coaching ability to mentor and support 16 to 18-year-old students to achieve and develop academically and emotionally. You will act as a trusted point of contact, helping learners build the confidence and resilience they need to improve their attendance, retention, and behaviour. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised mentoring to students and small groups, setting clear goals and tracking progress
  • Work with Programme Achievement Managers to support students who may be struggling in their studies
  • Use college systems to monitor attendance, offer guidance, and encourage students to take ownership of their attendance—especially in English and maths classes
  • Inspire and motivate learners to succeed while helping them build resilience and accountability
  • Maintain detailed records of student meetings, contracts, and progress using assessment tool
  • Spot student needs early, foster a positive and respectful environment, and refer concerns to safeguarding or specialist services when needed

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Hold a minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject
  • Hold a mentor Qualification or be prepared to train for one
  • Hold a minimum Level 2 qualification in Maths and English
  • Experience of mentoring young learners
  • Experience of supporting learners in an educational environment (desirable)
  • Experience of working within a team
  • Experience of working to pressure and tight deadlines

Central Campus Sandwell College is one of the newest FE Colleges in the UK and is a landmark for the development of education and training in the region.
