The Pastor of Student and Family Discipleship is responsible for leading and overseeing the disciple-making ministry from birth through 12th grade, providing vision and leadership oversight (not operational management) to the Children’s Ministry through its staffed leadership team, but giving primary focus to the middle school and high school student ministry.

Some of the qualifications and traits for serving as the Pastor of Student and Family Discipleship are:

  • A growing, vibrant walk with Christ.

  • Clear theological alignment with the church’s doctrine and disciple-making mission.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach Scripture faithfully and clearly.

  • A shepherd’s heart with relational warmth and spiritual courage.

  • Proven ability to develop and lead volunteer teams.

General Pastoral Responsibilities

Pastors of Restoration Church are first, pastors to the church as a whole and then second, pastors in their specific ministries. As a member of the pastoral team, the Pastor of Student and Family Discipleship will:

  • Attend weekly staff/pastor meetings.

  • Attend bi-monthly elder meetings.

  • Participate in churchwide events.

  • Provide general pastoral care to members of the body.

  • Supply the pulpit when needed (approximately 4–5 times per year).

Student Ministry (Grades 6–12)

The Pastor will serve as the primary shepherd, teacher, and vision-caster for the Student Ministry with average attendances ranging between 80 and 110 students.

1. Spiritual Leadership & Vision

  • Cast and implement a clear, gospel-centered discipleship vision for grades 6–12.

  • Ensure student ministry aligns with the overall mission and theology of the church.

  • Cultivate a culture of spiritual seriousness, relational warmth, and joyful obedience.

  • Develop a pathway for students to move from conversion to mature disciple-making.

2. Teaching & Theological Formation

  • Regularly oversee the structure and teaching of Wednesday night gatherings.

  • Ensure teaching is biblically faithful, Christ-centered, and missionally focused.

3. Shepherding & Discipleship

  • Personally disciple students through intentional relational investment.

  • Provide shepherding care to students and families.

  • Be available to families navigating spiritual, relational, or cultural challenges.

4. Leader Development

  • Recruit, onboard, and train youth leaders (approximately 25–30 leaders).

  • Provide policy, training, and accountability structures for leaders.

  • Equip leaders to make disciples, not merely supervise events.

  • Send weekly communication to leaders and parents to reinforce alignment and clarity.

5. Ministry Administration & Events

  • Work with the Youth Ministry Assistant to plan and coordinate ministry events.

  • Coordinate Sunday School curriculum and teaching schedules with the Youth Sunday School Lead.

  • Ensure Church Management System updates and event registrations are accurate.

  • Maintain consistent connection with local schools.

Children’s Ministry Oversight (Birth–5th Grade)

The Pastor provides vision and leadership oversight for Children’s Ministry, overseeing part-time children’s ministry staff, ensuring alignment, health, and discipleship clarity.

  • Cast unified discipleship vision for birth through 12th grade, ensuring that the children’s ministry aligns with the church’s theology, philosophy of ministry, and discipleship framework.

  • Oversee and support the Director(s) of Children’s Ministry.

    • Provide spiritual shepherding and accountability.

    • Help clarify priorities and time management.

  • Provide high-level budget oversight.

  • Provide counsel in complex shepherding or discipline situations when necessary.
