Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP: we value diversity as an expression of the multiplicity of nations and cultures where we operate, we foster inclusion as a way of ensuring all personnel are empowered to contribute to our mission, and we ensure equity and fairness in all our actions. Taking a ‘leave no one behind’ approach to our diversity efforts means increasing representation of underserved populations. People who identify as belonging to marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more about working at UNDP including our values and inspiring stories.

As the United Nations lead agency on international development, UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities, and to build resilience to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Our work is concentrated in three focus areas: sustainable development, democratic governance and peace building, and climate and disaster resilience.
The UNDP Representation Office in Brussels focuses on creating awareness about UNDP’s mandate, work and results and on nurturing and promoting the partnership with the EU, one of our partners in over 70 countries worldwide. The office also maintains a strategic partnership with Belgium and Luxembourg, both key contributors to UNDP’s core budget.
This internship is specifically anchored in UNDP’s engagement in Africa and supports the partnership between the UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa (RBA), UNDP Country Offices across the African continent, and key European partners. Working closely with colleagues in Brussels, the Regional Bureau for Africa, and Country Offices, the intern will contribute to strengthening partnerships with the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg in support of sustainable development, governance, resilience, and crisis response initiatives across Africa. The role provides a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience of how strategic partnerships are developed and managed to mobilize resources, influence policy, and support programme delivery in one of UNDP’s largest regional portfolios.
The internship provides valuable practical experience in an international professional environment. As an intern in our team, you will get first-hand exposure to support this mission, learn more about the work of UNDP and about the UN System, partnerships and communications. This internship contributes to that effort by supporting pipeline follow-up, project verification processes, and mission support related to RBA’s engagement with the EU, in a coordination and knowledge-management capacity.
Under the joint supervision and guidance of the designated supervisor within the UNDP Brussels Representation Office, and the Partnership Advisor in RBA, the intern will provide support to the Partnerships team across the following areas.
