Job Description

Partner / Business Unit Leader - Workers’ Compensation Defense Division

Locations - Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach

Kelley Kronenberg is seeking a Partner-level attorney with a portable book of business and the ambition to build a market-leading Workers’ Compensation defense practice on one of the most established platforms in South Florida. This is not a role where you inherit someone else’s playbook—this is an opportunity to leverage four decades of institutional relationships, a deep carrier and employer client base, and firm-funded infrastructure to accelerate the growth of your own practice.

If you are a seasoned Workers’ Compensation defense attorney who has built meaningful client relationships and is looking for a firm that rewards entrepreneurial drive, provides genuine operational support, and offers a transparent path to profitability—we invite you to explore what Kelley Kronenberg can offer.

Why Kelley Kronenberg

Kelley Kronenberg is a nationally recognized, forward-thinking law firm with more than four decades of excellence in Workers’ Compensation advocacy. Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale and operating across multiple South Florida offices—with a growing national footprint in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, and New York—we have built a reputation as a trusted partner for carriers, self-insured employers, TPAs, and business owners seeking exceptional defense counsel.

What sets us apart is our Business Unit Leader (“BUL”) model—a structure designed specifically for partner-level attorneys who want to operate with the autonomy of a practice leader while benefiting from the full resources of a national firm:

  • Firm-Funded Infrastructure: Dedicated support staff, advanced case management technology, marketing resources, and office operations are provided by the firm—freeing you to focus on practicing law and developing business.
  • Transparent P&L Ownership: Each Business Unit operates with its own profit-and-loss structure. You will have full visibility into the financial performance of your practice and direct control over its growth trajectory.
  • Competitive Profit-Sharing & Tiered Incentives: Our compensation model is designed to reward top performers with escalating returns tied to origination, collections, and practice profitability—not subjective committee decisions.
  • Cross-Selling & Institutional Relationships: Tap into the firm’s extensive network of carrier, TPA, and employer relationships across multiple practice areas, creating organic growth opportunities beyond your existing book.
  • Professional Development Resources: Access to the firm’s aKademy program for training and developing junior attorneys on your team, ensuring bench strength and continuity for your clients.

Your Responsibilities

As a Partner and Business Unit Leader within our Workers’ Compensation Defense Division, you will:

  • Lead and Grow Your Practice: Leverage your existing book of business while capitalizing on the firm’s deep South Florida market presence and institutional client relationships to expand your practice. Serve as primary relationship manager for key carrier, TPA, and employer clients.
  • Deliver Exceptional Client Results: Handle high-exposure and complex Workers’ Compensation defense matters from investigation through resolution, including hearings before Judges of Compensation Claims, mediations, and appeals. Provide strategic counsel on claim management, cost containment, and litigation avoidance.
  • Drive Business Development: Actively develop new client relationships through networking, industry events, thought leadership, and direct engagement with the insurance and employer community. Represent the firm at FDCC, DRI, CLM, and other industry conferences.
  • Build and Lead a High-Performing Team: Recruit, mentor, and develop associate attorneys and support staff. Foster a culture of accountability, professional excellence, and client-first service within your unit.
  • Shape Strategic Direction: Collaborate with firm leadership on the strategic growth of the Workers’ Compensation Division and participate in firmwide initiatives that strengthen our competitive position in the market.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of the Florida Bar.
  • Minimum of 5 years of substantive experience in Workers’ Compensation defense, with demonstrated proficiency in Florida Workers’ Compensation law, including familiarity with the Florida Workers’ Compensation Act and the Office of the Judges of Compensation Claims.
  • A portable book of business with established carrier, TPA, and/or employer client relationships.
  • Proven track record of business development, client retention, and revenue generation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing attorneys and legal support staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certification in Workers’ Compensation by The Florida Bar (or eligibility to pursue).
  • Experience with the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act.
  • Established reputation within the South Florida Workers’ Compensation defense bar and carrier community.
  • Prior experience operating as a practice group leader, equity partner, or in a P&L-responsible role within a mid-size or large law firm.
  • Active involvement in industry organizations such as the Workers’ Compensation Section of The Florida Bar, CLM, FDCC, or DRI.

What Sets This Opportunity Apart

  • Autonomy with Backing: You run your practice. We provide the technology, staffing, marketing, office space, and back-office operations; so you can focus on what you do best: practicing law and building relationships.
  • South Florida Market Depth: With over 40 years of established presence and extensive connections in the South Florida Workers’ Compensation market, our firm offers immediate access to relationships and referral channels that would take years to develop independently.
  • A Culture That Values Doers: We are not a bureaucratic firm. Decisions are made quickly. Entrepreneurial attorneys thrive here because our structure is designed to reward initiative, not tenure.
  • Flexible Office Options: This position can be based out of Fort Lauderdale or any of our South Florida offices, with hybrid flexibility available.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Competitive compensation, health and wellness benefits, retirement plan, and additional performance-based incentives.

Confidential Inquiries Welcome
