The opportunity

We have a unique opportunity for a Partner to join our nationally renowned Trust, Tax and Estates team, based in Cambridge with a flexible hybrid working model (two days in the office). The role offers genuine long‑term career development, with scope to help shape and grow the practice.

You will lead complex, high‑value Trusts & Estates matters for multi‑generational families, acting as a trusted adviser and contributing to client relationships, practice development and the continued strategic growth of the team alongside a collaborative and established partnership.

Key Responsibilities

General duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading on a broad range of trust, tax and estate matters, including succession planning, complex wills, trusts structuring and administration, and advising high-net-worth individuals, families, fiduciaries and charitable bodies.
  • Effectively manage an individual caseload, and delegate to and provide supervision to more junior members of the team as required.
  • Playing a key role in the growth and development of the Cambridge offering, contributing to the strategic direction of the Trust, Tax and Estates team.
  • Foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and high performance across the team.
  • Work in a collegiate and collaborative way within an immediate Team and wider Firm environment.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to generate new work and retain existing clients.
  • Contributing to business development, profile‑raising and strategic growth of the team.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively both internally to colleagues and externally to clients.
  • Continuing your professional development and staying updated with legal developments in the field.
  • To carry out your work for both colleagues and clients to the highest possible standard, having regard to the Firm’s standards, procedures and core values.
  • To attend and be involved in preparation for marketing and business development events and activities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Drive profitability and efficiency while maintaining quality of service.
  • Feed into the budget process annually and take responsibility for the financial performance of the Trust, Tax and Estates team.
  • Mentoring and developing junior lawyers and associates

Requirements

Essential

  • The candidate will have extensive experience working as a solicitor with Trusts, Tax and Estates, in particular matters of HNW clients.
  • Strong technical expertise across a broad range of private client matters, with the ability to lead on complex work.
  • Previous experience of pro-active business development and marketing; ability to demonstrate generation of new revenue streams and be able to promote the firm and cross-sell other specialisms internally and externally.
  • Candidates should be well-organised, technically proficient and a leader.
  • Have excellent communication skills, addressing any potentially difficult conversations promptly and with skill.
  • Proven experience in independently managing a caseload, demonstrating strong organisational skills and good financial hygiene (e.g. accurate time recording, billing discipline, and cost awareness).

Desirable

  • Existing connections or networks within the Cambridge or wider East Anglia market.
  • Experience of supervision and development of other team members.
