Job Description

The Nature Club Facilitator will lead small groups of children ages 4–15 in engaging, hands-on, nature-based activities at O’Dwyer Retreat Center. This part-time role is similar to the Ropes Course Facilitator position but focuses on environmental education, nature exploration, and outdoor play through the Wildly Catholic Nature Programs. All program costs will be covered by the Nature Club’s budget.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead small groups of young people (ages 4–15) in fun, educational Nature Club sessions
  • Plan and facilitate age-appropriate outdoor activities, including nature exploration, environmental education, games, crafts, and hands-on learning experiences
  • Lead reflections for small groups that connect activities with Catholic themes and teachings
  • Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of all participants at all times
  • Foster a love and appreciation for God and His creation while promoting curiosity, teamwork, and respect for the environment
  • Work collaboratively with the O’Dwyer Retreat Center team

Position Qualifications:

Required:

  • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • Experience working with children and youth (ages 4–15 preferred) in educational, recreational, camp, ministry, or similar settings
  • Genuine passion for nature, environmental education, outdoor activities, and fostering an appreciation for God’s creation
  • Ability to plan and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate, hands-on nature activities, games, crafts, and small-group faith reflections
  • Strong leadership, communication, group facilitation, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety, supervision, and well-being of all participants at all times
  • Physical ability to spend extended periods standing and actively engaging outdoors, including walking and hiking on trails and uneven terrain, and lifting/carrying light to moderate objects and equipment as needed
  • Reliable, enthusiastic, patient, flexible, and team-oriented
  • Willingness to complete all Archdiocese-required background checks and Safe Environment (VIRTUS) training

Preferred:

  • Background in ministry, preferably children’s ministry, at a Catholic parish or school
  • Previous experience in outdoor education, nature programs, environmental science, camp programming, or related youth programs
  • Education or background in education, biology, environmental studies, or a related field
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)

Schedule & Hours

  • Part-time position: 4–8 hours per week
  • Availability required: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM on weekdays and some weekends, as needed (specific days and exact weekly hours may vary based on Nature Club programming

Salary Range $16.50 - $20.00, Hourly
