The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.

Your Responsibilities

As a UIUC Part-Time Student - UX Research - supporting John Deere's User Experience organization within Global Manufacturing and Internal Business, for John Deere World Headquarters located in Champaign, IL you will help shape the future of how work gets done across manufacturing, operations, supply chain, engineering, and other business functions.

This role combines user research, systems thinking, operational excellence, AI, automation, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities that improve experiences, simplify work, and drive better business outcomes.

This position is not available to students on immigration visas

What Skills You Need

  • Preferred Majors: Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience (UX), Human Factors, Information Sciences, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Cognitive Psychology, Brain & Cognitive Sciences Or a related field of study
  • Must be registered as a full-time student at an accredited university or college.
  • Graduation date of May 2027 or later.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above.
  • Available to work 10 to 20 hours per week during the academic year.
  • Available to work 30 to 40 hours per week during summer semesters.
  • Available to work onsite in Champaign, IL.
  • Strong curiosity and desire to learn about business, technology, operations, and innovation.
  • Interest in research, problem solving, and understanding how people work.
  • Ability to analyze information and translate observations into actionable insights.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for AI, automation, emerging technologies, and operational transformation.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous environments and exploring new ideas

  • Observe workflows, interview stakeholders, and uncover opportunities to improve experiences, efficiency, and decision-making.
  • Support user research activities, workshops, journey mapping, and experience design initiatives.
  • Analyze findings and operational insights to identify opportunities for simplification, automation, and innovation.
  • Explore how AI, agentic systems, automation, and digital technologies can transform how work gets done.
  • Help visualize processes, experiences, workflows, and future-state concepts.
  • Create presentations, prototypes, and communications that bring ideas and insights to life.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Data & Analytics, Technology, and business leadership.
  • Research emerging trends in AI, automation, digital transformation, and the future of work.
  • Contribute to initiatives focused on improving the experiences of employees, dealers, customers, and other stakeholders interacting with Deere systems and processes.
